The storied Hamilton Heights/Sugar Hill plateau overlooking upper Harlem developed around the historic 18th- and 19th-century country estates of such notable figures as Alexander Hamilton and Madame Eliza Jumel, whose houses still bookend the district. This area also became known as Sugar Hill, where “life was sweet” for many professional African-Americans who moved to the area in the 20s and 30s. $25.00 each/Free with New York Pass.

New! Destination Uptown - Harlem Black & Jewish Music Culture 1890 - 1930

In the early part of the 20th century, Harlem was not just home, but the place where Jewish composers like George Gershwin, Oscar Hammerstein, and Richard Rodgers worked in collaboration with their African-American counterparts W.C. Handy, James Reese Europe, Duke Ellington and others honing and showcasing their talents. Come explore areas of Harlem's historic Mt. Morris Park and neighboring 125th Street, stopping at the APOLLO Theater, along with numerous other entertainment venues and residences, some dating back to the 1890s that are associated with these and other notable figures. Thursday, 11:00 am - 1:00pm. $41.50 each. This tour is no longer included in the New York Pass.
A minimum of five people is required for start of tour.

New! Destination Uptown -Swing Dance (Stroll and Dance Class)

Harlem, birth place of the Lindy Hop, and stompin' ground for Lindy Hopper, Frankie Manning and many others. On this walking tour you will learn about the neighborhood which fostered the excitement and energy of Swing Dace and Big Bands! Bring your dancing shoes as this tour includes a Swing Dance Class after the walking tour! Monday, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. (Walking tour 1 hour; Swing Dance Class 1 hour). $30.00 each/Free with New York Pass.

Walking Tours for Pass Holders are offered on Monday through Saturday at 10:00 am and are approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours in duration. RSVP required. New York Pass Holders must reserve space prior to date of tour.

During the months of November to February, we offer a general walking tour which starts in west Harlem and ends in central Harlem. Schedule is subject to change especially in case of inclement weather. Therefore, we request local contact information, when booking a tour.

You can book your tour by using the "BOOK NOW" links. Make sure to chose the NEW YORK PASS option when asked. If you encounter any difficulty please call 212-939-9201 or e-mail tours@harlemonestop.org. Pass number and a credit card (see cancellation policy below) are required to reserve space.

IF YOU ARE NOT A PASS HOLDER, the tour fee is $25.00 each. Purchase your ticket online.

Cancellation Policy for New York Pass holders: We understand that you may have planned your itinerary in advance of arrival and that once you are in New York your plans may change, however, if tour reservations are NOT cancelled in advance (24 hours prior to scheduled tour), your credit card will be charged $25.00 per person for "no show".
