Stroll the bucolic Trinity Cemetery, uptown, opened in 1843. Once the scene of fierce Revolutionary War fighting under the command of Gen. George Washington, Manhattan's only active burial ground was laid out adjacent to the 19th-century farm of naturalist John James Audubon.

The cemetery is on the National Register of Historic Places and surrounds the landmark Church of the Intercession. Notable gravesites include those of Audubon; developer Richard F. Carman, from whom Trinity Church bought the ''Carmansville'' property; adventuress Madame Eliza Jumel; Astors and Schermerhorns; Charles Dickens' son; novelist Ralph Ellison; high seas adventurer Michael Hogan; 1840s pro baseball player E.R.Dupignac; Clement Clarke Moore (author of the famous Christmas poem, ''A Visit from St. Nicholas'') and many others.

RSVP/confirmation required. Some tour guides require a minimum of 10 persons to start tour.
