UNCF TO HOST FOURTH ANNUAL HAMPTONS SUMMER BENEFIT

Event Will Honor Business and Civic Leaders; Raise Scholarship Funds

NEW YORK (August 17, 2015) –The New York Office of UNCF (The United Negro College Fund), the nation’s largest and most effective minority education organization, will host its Fourth Annual "A Mind Is..." Hamptons Summer Benefit on Saturday, August 22, 2015 in Easthampton, New York. The event, already a highlight of the Hamptons summer social calendar, has a serious purpose: supporting students and ensuring they receive the education they need to prepare them to become the leaders of the 21st century.

The UNCF "A Mind Is..." Hamptons Summer Benefit is chaired by UNCF President & CEO Dr. Michael L. Lomax and Nancy Silberkleit. WABC-TV news anchor Shirleen Allicot will serve as mistress of ceremonies. The evening will include preview of the Spring 2016 fashion collection from Carlton Jones, and catering from Chef Dadisi. There will also be live music from Yotoco and a silent auction.

"School may be out, but that doesn't mean we can stop working to get our young people to and through college. Attending the UNCF "A Mind Is..." Hamptons Summer Benefit is a critical investment in better futures for our young people that will pay dividends for all of us," Lomax stated. "That investment is the reason we are able to support more than 60,000 students each year through more than 10,000 scholarships under more than 400 programs at more than 900 colleges and universities across the country."

The Hamptons Summer Benefit has become a UNCF tradition and identifies prominent community leaders as honorees. This year’s event will honor three individuals who continue to make extraordinary contributions in the field of education: Michaela angela Davis, Centric TV Editorial Brand Director; businessman Robert F. Smith, Chairman/CEO of Vista Equity Partners; and Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell, President of Spelman.

College.

Sponsors for the event are Colgate-Palmolive, enJoie – Judia Elmore Black, CoCo & T, Lord & Taylor and Tybra and Maurice Arthur.

Events such as the Hamptons Summer Benefit are a call to action. While a college education is more important than ever, it is becoming more difficult than ever to get. Students need financial support and strong academics, as well a college-going culture that enlists families, schools and communities to help them get to their destination. Supporting UNCF and events, such as the "A Mind Is..." Hamptons Summer Benefit, represent a new philanthropy that produces a social and financial return on investment that benefits students, their families and communities, and the nation.
