Amber Charter School was founded in 2000 as the first Latino-led charter school in New York State by the Association of Progressive Dominicans, a community based organization. The school is located in East Harlem and serves over 400 students in grades K to 5. Amber's mission is to provide students an academically rigorous and well-rounded education, along with strong character development, that will enable them to prosper in top middle schools and beyond.
Key design elements:
-Spanish as a Foreign Language
-90 minutes of Literacy instruction a day
-90 minutes of Math instruction a day
-90 minutes of Science instruction a week
-90 minutes of Social Studies instruction a week
-Enrichment instruction in any/all of the following: Art, Music, Physical Education, and Technology
