Join us for an in-person event in the Moving Image and Recorded Sound (MIRS) Division featuring the powerful screening of We Were Here – The Untold History of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe. An insightful Q&A with the filmmaker Fred Kudjo Kuwornu!
We Were Here , exhibited at the Central Pavilion of the 60ᵗʰ International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale and presented as an Official Submission to the 98th Academy Awards® 2026 – Best Documentary Feature, also submitted to the 56th NAACP Image Awards® 2026, sheds light on the overlooked presence of African and Black individuals in Renaissance Europe, highlighting their depiction in masterpieces by some of the era’s most celebrated artists.
