Food Bazaar Expands Footprint with New Manhattan Store in East Harlem on 125th Street

Posted September 7, 2022

Food Bazaar Supermarket, a privately owned company, well-known for its vast international food offerings and charitable contributions, announces the growth of its retail presence with the opening of its first Manhattan location in East Harlem at 201 East 125th Street. Additionally, Food Bazaar’s convenient online shopping and home delivery offerings will be expanded to now service most of Manhattan. Customers can take advantage of these ecommerce features through Food Bazaar’s website and mobile app.

To celebrate the new store and to demonstrate the company’s continued dedication to the community it serves, it is hosting a Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Event on September 8 at 10 a.m. A donation amounting to tons of food will be distributed to Templo Emmanuel run by Pastor Cesar Cruz. The congregation is a pillar of support to   the Mexican immigrant community in the East Harlem neighborhood and provides free meals to 800 families in need every third Saturday of the month and free education to more than 150 people through their online program.

“We have had our eye on East Harlem for many years, and with this being our very first entry into the busy Manhattan market we are extremely excited to introduce our brand to the community. East Harlem shoppers will love our wide variety of fresh, authentic foods at affordable prices,” said Edward Suh, Executive Vice President for Food Bazaar. “More importantly, Food Bazaar is committed to working with community leaders and organizations to build partnerships that benefit local families and ensure that much-needed goods will get to the people who need it most in our neighborhoods."

Food Bazaar Supermarkets take great pride in providing each of the communities it serves with the food and flavors customers love and recall from “back home.” In addition to this, the East Harlem Food Bazaar will feature a custom cutting meat department, a full-service seafood department with a variety of whole fish, fillets, crab legs and live lobster, a deli counter with hot food and cold salads, and a bakery with fresh in-house baked breads as well as an assortment of cake offerings. Customers can also enjoy a coffee bean and roastery department and a full-service cheese section. Future plans include a convenient food court that will feature Teriyaki, Korean fried chicken and gourmet coffee and donuts.

“I am happy to welcome Food Bazaar, a long-awaited, full-service, healthy, and affordable grocery store to East 125th Street,” said Deputy City Council Speaker Diana Ayala. “As many of you know, I have worked very hard to get a new grocery store in East Harlem, and through efforts with the NYCEDC and the development team of the One East Harlem building, as well as a lot of work by the community’s East 125th Street Development Task Force, we have a new grocery store in this wonderful new building.”

“Food Bazaar brings this community a much-needed supermarket, creates nearly 150 new jobs, and demonstrates the importance of small businesses helping drive the city’s economic recovery,” said NYCEDC President and CEO Andrew Kimball. “NYCEDC welcomes Food Bazaar to One East Harlem, and we are proud to have worked with the community to revitalize the 125th Street corridor and to see new tenants like the Food Bazar opening their doors.”

The Grand Opening event is open to the community to attend and take part in the ribbon cutting ceremonies and festivities. In addition to the momentous food donation, the celebration will also feature activities for families to enjoy, such as a free Food Bazaar tote bag filled with delicious goodies being given to the first 1,000 customers and free food samples throughout the store. Additionally, the first 400 customers who show the Food Bazaar app on their phone will receive a voucher code for a free pair of New York Yankee tickets to select 2022 regular season games. Please note, this offer is for Harlem store customers only.

There are numerous discounts available throughout the chain, such as specials for senior citizens, Fire Fighters and employees. Customers can find additional savings by downloading the new Food Bazaar Rewards App from the App Store or Google Play.
