This 8-week performance intensive will culminate in front of hundreds of spectators at the FREE MOTHERSHIP EIGHT Dance & Music Festival at the legendary Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park on Saturday September 19th, 2026. Participation is free. Costume fee is typically $45 -50.

Open to all ages and abilities.

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

During this workshop, you will be introduced to the rich traditions, rhythms, and movements of Haitian folkloric dance. This experience is not only about learning choreography — it is about understanding the history, culture, and stories behind the dances.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sherley Davilmar is a Haitian born choreographer and educator dedicated to the preservation and evolution of traditional Haitian dance. As the artistic director of La Troupe Zetwal, she leads a multicultural ensemble that honors the ancestral rhythms through Haiti and live drumming and authentic movement. Sherley began her formal training as a teenager driven by her commitments to counter negative stereotypes and to educate her peers on the richness of the Haitian heritage and culture.
