Happy September from the Historic Harlem Parks team! This month, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, beginning September 15, while recognizing the rich cultures, histories, and contributions that continue to shape our Harlem community.

As we welcome the start of a new school year and the transition into fall, our parks remain places to connect, learn, and celebrate. Join us throughout September for the closing of the West Harlem Summer Jazz Festival, Movies Under the Stars, family-friendly activities, and more across Historic Harlem Parks.

St. Nicholas Park:   

Wednesday, September 2nd: Movies Under the Stars: Akeelah and the Bee  

From 6:00 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.: 135th Street Plaza/ James Baldwin Lawn

Grab a blanket and come enjoy a movie in a neighborhood park or playground! This summer, NYC Parks and The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs. Rated PG 
Parental Guidance Suggested. Movies begin at dusk. This event is FREE and open to the public. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. In the event of heavy rain or extreme weather, the screening may be canceled. The decision to cancel the event will be made prior to the screening and will be promptly posted on our website.

Marcus Garvey Park:   

Friday, September 11: OnPoint NYC’s East Harlem Care Fair

From 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Marcus Garvey Park

Join OnPointNYC for their Annual Care Fair event at Marcus Garvey Park. This event will include free health information, resources, fitness demos, and giveaways from OnPoint and partnering orgs. 

Friday, September 18: Celebration Hispanic Heritage Month Paint Night

From 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Pelham Fritz Recreation Center, 18 Mount Morris Park West

Join NYC Parks in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month through artistic expression. Instructor Susana will teach you how to paint a tropical land scope by using primary colors. Please bring your family and friends.

Saturday, September 19: Mothership Eight Dance and Music Festival

From 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm: Richard Rodgers Amphitheater

Harlem Dance Club presents The MOTHERSHIP EIGHT Dance & Music Festival on 9/19/26 at Harlem's historic Richard Rodgers Amphitheater.

The MOTHERSHIP Dance & Music Festival is Harlem Dance Club’s interactive voyage of music, community, and dance. Since 2018, this joyful celebration has transformed the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater into a launchpad of culture, rhythm, and connection—featuring Afro, House, Haitian, Hip Hop, Indian, Vogue, live drumming, and more.

Live Drumming, Stepping, Swing, West African, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Praise, Classical Indian Dance and more.

Jackie Robinson Park:   

Thursday, September 17th: Flamboyants! by La Compagnie Tilawcis, Musical Concert 

From 6:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.: Jackie Robinson Park – Bandshell at 148 Street and Bradhurst Ave. ADA access at 150 Street and Bradhurst Ave.

Join NYC Parks and Citizen Arts International for a concert version of an original musical connecting the Creole cultures of Réunion Island, Puerto Rico, and New Orleans.

Morningside Park:  

March- November: Second Saturdays and Friday Morning Volunteer Clean-ups with Friends of Morningside 

Join Friends of Morningside on Friday mornings and/or Second Saturdays for community gardening and clean up. It’s a chance to connect with neighbors and make a visible difference at Morningside Park. 

Saturday, September 12th: West Harlem Summer Jazz Festival

From 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: 113th st. And Manhattan Ave  

Join NYC Parks, West Harlem Arts Alliance, and Harlem Late Night Jazz for the annual jazz festival. Morningside Park is typically second Saturdays from 5-6:30 pm at 113 Street and Morningside Ave, within the park. Visit whaanyc.org for the full schedule of events and artist line up. September 12 at Morningside Park features Carlos Jimenez Mambo.

Saturday, September 19th: Friends of Morningside Park Common Ground Festival 

From 12:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.: West 113th St and Manhattan Ave

Join Friends of Morningside Park for the annual family-friendly community festival that features arts and crafts, wellness activities, face painting, pony rides, magic shows, dance lessons and musical entertainment.  
All programs and activities are provided free-of-charge to the general public.
