"A consistently appealing quality of a Bronx Opera production is the engaging sense of community that pervades the performance - without, I hasten to say, any hint of slighting high professional standards."
- New York Magazine History of the Bronx Opera
The Bronx Opera Company was founded in 1967 by Michael Spierman, the organization's Artistic Director and principal Conductor.
Productions
The Bronx Opera's two annual productions are always sung in English with a full chorus and orchestra, featuring talented singers selected from an open competitive audition process.

The company presents one known and one rarely-performed opera each season. For our current season schedule, please click here.

All productions are presented at Lehman College's Lovinger Theatre in The Bronx. Our January production is also presented at the Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (Lexington Avenue at 68th Street in Manhattan), while the May production is also seen at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse of Hofstra University in Hempstead, Long Island.
