One class on hat making was all it took to convince Anthony Maxwell, then a social worker and part time ballet dancer, that he found his niche. "I was encouraged early on," says Maxwell, whose instructor felt he had created his own collection; Women's Wear Daily even called him a RISING STAR. In 2000 he formally presented his line to the National Pret-a-Porter Commision in Paris, an expo for the European fashion community, where he received rave reviews. "My hats are sophisticated, yet easy to wear and practical," he says of his pieces, which include interchangeable details like leather flowers and mink applique.
